Monthly MMA GIFS (Top 5 Slams/Throws)

March 1st, 2009

MMA GIFS have become a popular part of MMA culture. It’s a simple way to capture an exciting moment in a fight. Every month I will take a small selection GIFS that I find to be interesting and display them along with a brief analysis of what’s going on. This month’s concentration is on Slams and Throws. If you have a .GIF that would would like to see posted, send an email to richardlafortune@gmail.com and I will do my best to include it in the next months post.

1. Arona Slam

Rampage delivers a brutal slam as Arona goes for a triangle attempt. Arona couldn’t recover from it and rampage won the fight. Definitely one of Rampage’s most impressive finishes, even considered one of the most impressive finishes in MMA today.

2. Fedor Slam

One of the scariest moments in Pride history, Fedor is suplexed hard into the ground. Amazingly he recovers and ends up winning the fight.

3.  Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch

Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch throws David Heath like a ragdoll into the mat. Tim was the underdog in the fight and came out with a very impressive, unorthodox win.

4.  Nogueira Pile Driver

Somehow, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira goes on to win this fight after having over 300 lbs of pure muscle drive him hard, head first, into the mat. I’m not sure how he did it either.. but I sure am impressed.

5.  Dan Mirgliotta

I think we can safely say the winner in this fight is Dan Mirgliotta. TKO.

That’s all for this month, once again feel free to submit any GIFs and I will do my best to make sure they make it in next months posts.

I’d also like to let everyone know that the MMA fight Simulator is progressing nicely and should be in open beta soon. If you are interested in helping feel free to drop me a line at the email listed above.

Kimbo ‘Bread’ Slice

February 20th, 2009

It’s been a while since i’ve written anything here, so I decided I would make fun of kimbo because it’s really easy (His name is Kimbo).

As we all know, Kimbo Slice (or Kevin Furguson) started his career on the streets fighting strangers for bread and liquor. After beating up all of the homeless men he could find he was taken in by Bas Ruttun and given a chance at an actual career. The hype surrounding him was incredible and he was expected by most to tear through his first opponent, Bo Cantrell. Most intelligent MMA fans were still sceptical of his abilities so they were suprised to see him win by knockout, 14 seconds into the first round. Kimbo then went on to beat 2 more opponents; Tank Abbot and James Thompson. Kimbo’s last fight was against the very talented and respected Ken Shamrock, unfortunatly however; Ken had to pull out of the fight and was replaced by short notice opponent, Seth Petruzelli (A much easier opponent). Words cannot describe how the fight unraveled.. but a .GIF from the internet can!

At least now he knows he can’t use his beard to block punches. The following graph accurately describes Kimbo’s career.

In conclusion, I think we can all say there’s one thing an MMA fighter shouldn’t do.. and that’s lose to Seth Petruzelli (who?). If we’re lucky we will get to see Kimbo back in the octagon, hopfully this time not using his face to absorb punches. Street fighting does not mean you will translate into an incredible fighter. Unless you are Jean Claude Van Damme.

..I’m not sure how this is relevant either.

PS: SORRY TO LESNAR FANS, I DIDNT MEAN TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS.

Brock fucking Lesnar

November 23rd, 2008

As we all know, Brock Lesnar defeated Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture at UFC 91 Saturday night. This was supposedly the “Biggest fight in UFC history”… but any UFC fan with half a brain would know that Brock Lesnar does not belong in the Main Event.. let alone the ufc at all. Randy Couture weighed in at 220 lbs and Brock Lesnar at 265 lbs.. AFTER cutting at least 15 lbs. For those of you who can’t do math, that’s 280 compared to Randy at 220. Below is a diagram to give you an idea.

Brock was recently quoted saying:

I’ve been accused of using steroids my entire life, probably since the tenth grade in high school… I’ve never failed a drug test. Now if I was a black guy and I looked the way I do would I get asked this question a 100 times? I just happen to be a white guy that has some great genetics, so I guess that puts a bullseye on me… I’m a white dude that’s shredded and you don’t see a lot of it — a guy that’s walking around that looks like me.”

I’m sorry Mr. Lesnar. I didn’t realize you could not only lie about your evident steroid use but also come off as a racist prick at the same time. Guess what, black people get accused of steroid use too!

Well done. Perhaps if you actually admitted to using steroids you would get some respect. Brock Lesnar didn’t defeat Randy Couture. Steroids did.

PS: to all the “pro wrestling” fans that cry about this article, go fuck yourself. Brock will lose his belt before you know it. It amazes me how you people can idolize someone with a tattoo of a giant penis on his chest.
