Kyle Maynard in MMA, Inspirational or Just Wrong?
Kyle Maynard was man on a mission in Auburn, AL. Kyle, an avid wrestler well known for being an amputee decided to take himself to an entirely new level by stepping into the cage for an amateur MMA fight in a state where there is no governing body to tell him that he cannot do so. His plan was to use the footage of the event as evidence that he is indeed capable of fighting alongside with able bodied men in other states. The paperview event didn’t get nearly as many buys as expected, only bringing in about 100. Perhaps this is due to the ethical dilemma posed and people not wanting to involve themselves in it.
“The pay-per-view was more about people wanting to see it than actually making money. Because we didn’t have Internet access, I had to bring in a satellite truck. It was kind of a pain to do it all. We expected a couple thousand [buys]; we were shocked it only drew about 100.”
That being said, the fight didn’t end up going in Kyle’s favor who was kept at bay by the striking of his opponent, Bryan Fry.
As it stands I currently don’t know what to think about the fight, but I don’t think I could bare seeing something like this ever again. Kyle is a very inspirational person, who has excelled in many sports.. I just don’t think MMA will be one of them.
