Rise of the Dragon, Lyoto Machida

March 13th, 2009

Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida

Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida has always been underrated in the eyes of most people, but now he is finally in the spotlight. The fact is, nobody out there wants to take their chances against him. He has completely destroyed everything in his path to get to where he is today. Undefeated in 14 fights, Machida has impressive wins over top competition such as BJ Penn, Rich Franklin, Sokoudjou and his most recent victory against Thiago Silva, who some thought would be the only man to have a chance at beating him.

Growing up in Belem, Brazil, Machida started training in karate at the age of three and earned his black belt at the age of 13. Lyoto is becoming well known as the one fighter that cannot be beat.

There have been a lot of fans and MMA commentators who have had complaints about Lyoto’s “elusive” style because to the untrained eye it could be considered to be “boring”, however in response to such criticisms he has said:

“If you don’t like it, sorry. I always try to win. For some that is boring, I know, but I am beating the best in the world.”

You cannot deny that. It’s people like Lyoto who give the sport it’s credibility, fighting to win. Personally I have seen much worse.

Lyoto

Lyoto is scheduled for his first UFC title shot at UFC 98 against Rashad ‘Sugar’ Evans. Both fighters are undefeated; however if Lyoto’s performance as of late is any indication then I would not suggest betting against him. I predict that “the dragon” will not only be victorious; but I would even go as far as saying that he will likely be a champion on the same level as Anderson Silva, comfortably holding his division title for years to come.

Please take time to vote in the poll below.

Is Lyoto Machida boring?
